We understand this is a big decision, and that serious producers do their research. Below are the most common questions we get from experienced agents exploring a move to IPA.
If you don’t see your question listed, we’re happy to walk you through it.
Not necessarily. You’ll need an active producer license, and if you plan to operate under an LLC or Corporation, you’ll also need an agency license. We can guide you through that setup as part of onboarding.
Yes. You must operate from a business location — not a home-based office. If you don’t have one yet, that’s okay. Many agents secure a space during the onboarding process.
We work with many agents transitioning from captive carriers — and you are absolutely encouraged to apply. The process is completely confidential. While we can’t submit you for direct appointments or provide carrier access until your official release date, we can help you prepare everything in advance so you’re ready to go on day one.
No. This program is designed exclusively for experienced P&C agents. You’ll need at least 2–3 years of experience and a proven track record of production.
Yes. With direct sub-code appointments through IPA, you’ll have your own login credentials and full binding authority. You quote, bind, and service business directly — not through a GA or call center.
Absolutely. From day one, you own 100% of your book. You can sell it, pass it down, or leave IPA at any time. We never hold your book hostage, and there are no exit fees.
Most agents start with 2–5 direct appointments, depending on your production history and appetite. You’ll also have access to dozens of additional markets through our brokerage and wholesale partners.
Commissions are processed and paid by IPA on the 28th of every month. You’ll receive a detailed statement showing each policy, client, carrier, and commission earned.
Please note: commissions typically lag by one month, depending on the carrier's cutoff dates. For example, if you write a policy on the 15th, and the carrier’s cutoff is the 20th, you’ll typically be paid the following month on the 28th. If you write business after a carrier’s cutoff (e.g., on the 27th), that commission may not be received and paid out until the second month following
Most preferred and standard carriers pay the full commission upfront — even if the insured is on a payment plan. However, if a policy cancels early or is rewritten before renewal, you may see commission chargebacks, just like with any retail agency.
With non-standard or high-risk carriers, commissions are often paid monthly or as the customer makes payments. These will show up in your statement incrementally as IPA receives them.
Commission chargebacks can occur under three common scenarios:
We’ll provide transparency on any deductions in your monthly statements.
Generally, no. Most carriers allow agents to run MVRs and CLUEs as part of their quoting workflow, with internal thresholds in place. If those thresholds are exceeded — especially without resulting in bound business — the carrier may begin charging for those reports.
To avoid this:
If you’re within those guidelines, you won’t see charges.
There are no upfront fees or exit fees to join IPA. Our model is built around shared success. For experienced producers, you’ll find the economics competitive, fair, and aligned with your growth — not ours.
Yes — many agents qualify for annual profit sharing. Eligibility depends on hitting premium and profitability thresholds with your appointed carriers. We’ll help you structure your book to meet these benchmarks and earn the bonuses.

You’ll have access to real people — including our leadership team — whenever you need it. This isn’t a call center or ticket system. It’s real support, from people who’ve walked the path before you.
Let’s talk about what you’re looking to build — and whether we’re the right fit to help you do it.
