Do I need an insurance license?+
No. Unlicensed professionals can participate by making warm introductions to IPA. Our licensed national partners handle all quoting, coverage, and policy activity. If you hold a P&C license, you qualify as a Licensed Partner and can also earn commission on placed policies.
What's the difference between a licensed and unlicensed partner?+
Unlicensed partners make warm introductions โ€” their value is becoming the trusted insurance resource for their clients, deepening relationships without needing a license. Licensed P&C producers can also earn commission income (50% of IPA's share) on every policy placed and every renewal. Both types get full support from IPA's national partner network.
How does the 50% commission work? (Licensed Partners only)+
This applies to licensed partners only. For personal lines, the carrier pays approximately 15% commission on a placed policy. IPA's national partner does all the work (quoting, binding, servicing) and keeps 50%. IPA receives the other 50%. We then split our share 50/50 with you. Example: a $2,000 household premium at 15% = $300 total commission. National partner keeps $150. IPA receives $150. Your commission = $75. This repeats on every renewal for as long as the policy stays active. For commercial lines, IPA is contracted directly with carriers like Travelers, Hartford, Liberty Mutual, and CNA at 7-15% commission rates. You earn 50% of IPA's share on those as well โ€” and commercial accounts typically have much higher premiums.
Do I have to talk about insurance with my clients?+
No. Your job is the introduction. Under the agreement, you cannot discuss specific rates, coverage amounts, or carriers โ€” that's IPA's job, and it protects you from unlicensed insurance activity. Your role is: 'I have an insurance partner who shops 50+ carriers. Want me to connect you?'
Can I refer commercial clients?+
Absolutely. Commercial accounts are often the largest opportunities. If you work with business owners โ€” regardless of industry โ€” you have commercial referral potential. IPA has national relationships across BOP, general liability, commercial auto, workers comp, and more.
What if I get my P&C license later?+
You can upgrade from Unlicensed to Licensed Partner at any time by providing proof of your active P&C license and signing the Licensed Partner Agreement. Commissions apply to new referrals from the upgrade date forward โ€” not retroactively.
