Best Photographer Insurance 2026
Venues require GL before you walk in. Wedding clients sue when cards corrupt. Your homeowner's policy won't cover your gear. Here's what every photographer actually needs — starting at $30/month.

⚠️ No COI = No Venue. No E&O = One Bad Wedding Away From Bankruptcy.
Every professional wedding venue requires a certificate of insurance listing them as additional insured before you can shoot. And one card corruption claim from a wedding client — demanding reimbursement for a ruined event — can easily exceed $50,000 without professional liability. These are not edge cases. They happen regularly.
Photographer Insurance: What You Need
Required vs. optional depends on your specialty. Here's the full breakdown.
Equipment / Inland Marine
Covers cameras, lenses, lighting, audio, and drones against theft, accidental damage, and loss — worldwide, including transit and storage. Your homeowner's policy caps business gear at $500–$2,500 and excludes commercial use. This fills that gap completely.
General Liability
Covers third-party bodily injury and property damage at shoot locations. Required by virtually every wedding venue, event space, and commercial client. Minimum $1M per occurrence — venues want to be listed as additional insured on your COI.
Professional Liability (E&O)
Covers client disputes over deliverables: missed key shots, card corruption, hard drive failure, blurry photos, late delivery. Wedding photographer E&O claims are the highest-frequency professional liability claims in creative industries. One claim = $20K+ in legal fees without this.
Drone / UAV Liability
Standard GL policies commonly exclude UAV/aircraft operations — even when drones aren't explicitly named. Drone-specific liability covers bodily injury and property damage from drone operations. FAA Part 107 required for commercial use — but that's certification, not insurance.
Media Liability
Covers copyright infringement, right-of-publicity violations, invasion of privacy, and defamation claims from published images. Less critical for portrait/wedding work; essential for commercial, advertising, editorial, and stock photographers.
Commercial Auto
Personal auto excludes business use. If you drive to shoots with gear in the car, you need commercial auto or a business-use endorsement. Also covers gear stolen from your vehicle during transit.

Brand clients require higher limits + media liability for published images
